Ephesians 2:7 “that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
When the Bible promises us eternal life, we could say it is not only the length of time- forever, but also the quality of time in forever. That is, if time exists in eternity, but you get my point. What good would eternal life be if we were living some boring, mediocre existence.
We could also say eternal life is not time, or place, or quality of forever, but a Person. That is, we spend eternity with the Living God. Enough philosophizing about eternity! Let's take a look at what our verse says about the ages to come.
First, the concept of the ages to come, not only speaks of the passage of time, but also a change that can be marked with the passage of time. We are going to be moving through these ages with the Living God in our future. These ages are complete mysteries to us. What we do know is that “eye can’t see and ear can’t hear, nor can the heart imagine what God has planned for those who love Him." I can't wait to see what the ages bring!!
Next, God will “show the exceeding riches of His grace” in the ages to come. Wow! Let's pause and think about that. If you think you have an understanding of God’s grace, I would argue with you. No one has a good understanding of the riches of His grace, they will just keep coming throughout all of eternity!
Finally, this rich grace has been shown through His kindness towards us is in Christ Jesus. The word Christ is the Greek word for the Jewish word, Messiah. When we receive Jesus as our Messiah, and find the forgiveness He brings by way of the cross, we then have our ticket punched for the ages to come.
Blessings! Let us know what you think! Give us your comments and tell us what this verse means to you.
