“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14
Attain, Forget, Press!
Paul understood a basic human principle that sometimes trips us Christians into becoming stagnant. Humans like to dwell in the past. We hear a song or see a movie that reminds us of times past, either good or bad. Then, we may long for those times. Paul exhorts Christians to attain, forget, and press.
You, Christian, are engaged in a life-long journey that will never be completed until we see Jesus. For that reason, you must attain or seek to attain the holiness and righteousness of Christ available by His blood. You must also forget the things that are behind you. Forget those glory days or those past regrets! It is all about the future and pressing on daily towards Jesus.
I recently heard a stock analyst say something that reminded me of a true Christian principle. He said and I paraphrase, “It does not matter how the stock has performed in the past or how it is doing currently, it is all about the future of the stock.” It is all about the future! This is not only true of a stock; it is true of the Christian. It does not matter what you have done or accomplished in the past. It is all about the future.
What are you doing for Jesus today?
How will you live for Him tomorrow and in the years to come?
Blessings,
Robert
