“Then the servant took ten of his master’s camels and departed, for all
his master’s goods were in his hand. And he arose and went to Mesopotamia, to
the city of Nahor. And he made his camels kneel down outside the city by a well
of water at evening time, the time when women go out to draw water. Then he
said, “O Lord God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and
show kindness to my master Abraham.” ~ Genesis 24:10-12
At the end of Abraham’s life, he makes provision for his
son’s future. Among possessions and inheritance, Abraham wants Isaac to find a
good companion, a wife. Abraham entrusts his faithful servant Eleazar with the
task of finding a woman from among Abraham’s family. After Abraham’s death,
Eleazar makes preparations for completing his master’s final request. He grasps
the significance of this event and before he goes out, inquires of the Lord for
success.
Eleazar is successful. He finds a perfect, pure bride for
Isaac. Her name is Rebekah and Isaac immediately loves her. A bride is united
with Isaac and his father’s request is honored and fulfilled.
This quest of Eleazar to find a bride teaches two very
important lessons. First, it is a picture of the church as the Bride of Christ.
It also speaks to the believer about the Lord’s perfect provision.
Abraham is a type of the Father. The Father in heaven sends
a command to find the Bride, which is us! Isaac is a type of Christ. Isaac
awaits his bride and prepares a place for her, just as Christ awaits his Bride
to meet him in heaven. Eleazar is a type of the Holy Spirit who pursues people
to receive Christ and become the pure and perfect Bride with a home in heaven.
The church at large is the Bride of Christ. Christ protects and cherishes his
bride as Isaac his bride.
Secondly, this shows God’s faithfulness to provide perfectly
for our needs. If you are single or you have a need, ask God to make your
pursuit successful. Believe that God has your best in store. He will provide a
bride or groom for the single person, just as God provided Isaac the perfect
bride.
No matter your needs, God can provide for you today. Whether
you are single and desire to be married or you are married and are struggling.
Ask God. Seek counseling. God wants to bless His church.
Blessings,
Robert
